Women’s Health: The GYT Slogan

If you have not heard the “GYT” slogan yet it stands for “get yourself tested.” For optimum women’s health this is sure to be important to you regardless of sexual activity. The campaign corresponding to this new slogan and acronym appeals to the Internet age but it also appeals to the common audience. It is a message to anyone who is sexually active regardless of age.

The GYT Campaign

Several organizations such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Kaiser Family Foundation, Planned Parenthood, and MTV are involved in the GYT campaign. The main reason for this new initiative to promote STD testing is the fact that many people are spreading STDs and they do not even know it.

The goal of the GYT campaign is as follows:

  • To help make talks about sexual health more “normal” (make it less of a taboo to talk about, reduce chance someone would be offended if you bring up STDS and/or safe sex practices)
  • To continue the initiative to inform people about STDs and the consequences of unsafe sexual practices
  • To encourage people to get tested routinely to make sure they do not have STDs
  • Make the existence of STD testing centers open to young people

Avenues of Education

Celebrities will be most likely brining up GYT in upcoming years, if not already. Furthermore, this “GYT” acronym will be used on college campuses. It will be broadcasted via online as well as mobile telephone.

The concept of getting yourself tested will also be (if not already) be aired on MTV. It will also be shown on MTVU. You may also see this GYT buzz phrase circulating all across the Internet.

Who this Affects?

This article is included in information about women’s health. However, the “GYT” concept does not only affect women. It also affects men. It affects young people, as well as middle-aged men and women and even seniors.

Every single year women as well as men are affected by the following sexual transmitted diseases: Genital herpes, Trichomoniasis, Chlamydia, Syphilis, Genital warts, and Gonorrhea. Of course, there is also the more potentially deadly one to be concerned about-HIV (AIDS).

This is not even the full list of the sexually transmitted diseases known to man. Many more exist and this is a very good reason to be educated about the “GYT” initiative. This is important to ensure optimal women’s health but it also is important to encourage optimal men’s health.
